What Information We Collect

How We Use Your Information

Location Data

GroIT uses your location to show nearby produce listings and calculate distances between buyers and sellers. Your precise location is never sold to third parties. You can update or remove your location at any time in Profile → Edit Profile.

Verification Documents

Seller verification documents are stored securely and are only accessed by GroIT administrators for verification purposes. They are never shared with buyers or third parties.

Sharing Your Information

We do not sell your personal data. Your username, profile photo, listings and reviews are visible to other GroIT users. We use Supabase for secure data storage and infrastructure. We may share information if required by law.

Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account we will delete your personal data within 30 days, except where required for legal or accounting purposes.

Your Rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to access, correct, delete or export your personal data. To exercise these rights contact us at hello@groit.io. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk

Terms of Service

1. About GroIT

GroIT is a local produce marketplace operated by Food Miles Ltd, company number 14224112, registered in England and Wales. By using GroIT you agree to these terms.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to use GroIT. By using the app you confirm that you are 18 or over.

3. Your Account

You are responsible for keeping your account details secure and for all activity that takes place under your account. Contact us immediately if you believe your account has been compromised.

4. Buying on GroIT

When you purchase produce through GroIT you are entering into a contract directly with the seller. Food Miles Ltd acts as a marketplace platform only and is not responsible for the quality, safety or accuracy of listings.

5. Selling on GroIT

To sell on GroIT you must complete identity verification and agree to the Seller Terms and Food Safety Policy. You are solely responsible for the accuracy and safety of your produce and listings.

Payments are processed through Stripe. Food Miles Ltd charges a 5% transaction fee on each sale. Subscription fees are charged monthly. All fees are non-refundable unless otherwise stated.

8. Green Points

Green Points are awarded at our discretion and have no cash value unless otherwise stated. We reserve the right to modify or terminate the Green Points programme with 30 days notice.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Food Miles Ltd is not liable for any indirect or consequential damages arising from your use of GroIT. We do not exclude liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence.

10. Account Suspension

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account if you breach these terms, engage in fraudulent activity or cause harm to other users.

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.

Seller Terms & Food Safety

1. Seller Responsibility

As a seller on GroIT you are solely responsible for the produce you list and sell. Food Miles Ltd is not responsible for the quality, safety or legality of any produce sold through the app.

2. Food Safety Act 1990

All sellers must comply with the Food Safety Act 1990. It is a criminal offence to sell food that is unsafe, misdescribed or not of the quality demanded by the buyer.

3. Food Hygiene

All produce must be grown, harvested and stored hygienically, free from contamination, and packaged cleanly. If you sell processed or prepared foods (jams, chutneys, baked goods) you may need to register as a food business with your local authority.

4. Allergen Information

You must provide accurate allergen information for any produce you sell. If your produce may contain any of the 14 major allergens you must clearly state this in your listing description.

5. Pesticides and Organic Claims

Only use pesticides approved for use in the UK and follow label instructions. Do not describe produce as organic unless you hold a valid certification from an approved body such as the Soil Association.

6. Accurate Listings

All listings must accurately describe the produce being sold. Misleading listings will be removed and your account may be suspended.

7. Food Business Registration

If you sell food regularly you may need to register as a food business with your local authority. Registration is free. Contact your local council Environmental Health department for advice.

8. Insurance

We strongly recommend that sellers obtain appropriate product liability insurance. Food Miles Ltd does not provide insurance cover for sellers.

9. Reporting Issues

If you become aware of any issue with produce you have sold — for example if it may be contaminated — contact us immediately at hello@groit.io and take steps to notify any affected buyers.

10. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Food Miles Ltd from any claims arising from your sale of produce through GroIT, including claims relating to food safety, allergens or misdescription.
